WAI Continuum Announces Acquisition by Lightowler Johnson Associates, Inc.,

Expanding Firm Practices and Industry Exposure

Saint Paul, MN – WAI Continuum, an architecture firm specializing in the field of senior living and healthcare design, and Lightowler Johnson Associates, Inc. (LJA), a full-service architecture and engineering firm with a comprehensive portfolio in hospitality design, are pleased to announce the recent merger of their firms.  Both firms are national recognized in their trade.

Building upon the strengths of LJA’s 60+ year history of award winning hotel and hospitality design and established practices that include architectural design, engineering and planning services, WAI brings to the table 35 years of design specialization in the senior living market.  With over 500 senior living projects completed in 34 states, WAI has built a legacy of award winning work in skilled nursing care, memory care, independent and assisted living design.

“By tapping into the talent and resources of LJA, WAI can offer a deeper expertise and insight to the influence of hospitality design on our key market – skilled nursing care,”  said David Wolterstorff, President of WAI.  “Senior care centers are stepping up to reposition themselves towards the rapidly growing market of rehabilitative care and are catering to the unique needs of transitional care clients who seek concierge services and a hotel-like design.  Our new alliance with LJA will afford us access to not only a greater breadth of engineering services, but also enhanced capability for complex projects and the insight of hotel design on the marketability and profitability of tomorrow’s senior care centers.”

As a wholly owned subsidiary of LJA, WAI Continuum will add an additional office to LJA’s engineering and design teams already located in Fargo, ND, Williston, ND and Detroit Lakes, MN while expanding their expertise and body of work which already includes hospitality, commercial, industrial, educational, governmental, and housing.

“We are excited to be acquiring this exceptional team of architects and designers,” said Stevan Dewald, President of LJA.  “Combining teams with portfolios as comprehensive as ours is an amazing opportunity to expand LJA’s depth of work in the senior industry while creating solutions that inspire and serve future clients successfully.”
