THE CHALLENGE:

Houses can achieve the qualities of home through simplicity, restraint and diversity, and be expressive of the individual, the site and the region.

The challenges presented in residential design provide an opportunity to address the growing demands for modern lifestyles and be representative of the individuals for which it is intended. Current lifestyles demand amenities not typically found in older homes, including mudrooms, offices, owner's suites, and media rooms. In new housing, these components are not often fully developed and lack substance and integration.

Renovations to existing homes present another challenge in established and traditional neighborhoods. Thoughtful use of identifiable architectural qualities, such as proportion and scale, color and balance, can provide seamless integration through simple, innovative and authentic design solutions.
