Kingsway Retirement Village

Sponsored by: Lutheran Home Association

Belle Plaine, MN

IN BRIEF:

  •  45 Independent Living Units
  •  22 Assisted Living Units
  •  14 Memory Care Units

THE CHALLENGE:

As part of its campus repositioning strategy, the Lutheran Home of Belle Plaine sought to add senior housing to its existing long term care campus.

THE SOLUTION:

Known for its rich German heritage, the Belle Plaine community was delightfully pleased with the newest housing addition to its community. The new facility not only offers a charming housing option for active seniors, but it does so in a mannor that reflects the heritage of its residents.

A central theme of this new facility is the desire to engage its residents by creating an active social element for resident enjoyment. This is found in the numerous points of choice for independ activities.

  • Residents wake to the smell of java as they grab a cup of joe at the Kaffee Haus where they enjoy the paper and a quick check of their email at the internet cafe.
  • As they welcome new guests, they stop at the wishing well then move to the Reisling Parlor where a warm fireplace greets them.
  • It is off to Marketplatz where activities abound. Residents visit with staff in the business office, move to the beauty parlor for a fresh new 'do, stop at the bank for financial business and a moment to hit the market shop for a few household items.
  • For supper it is a visit to the restaurant for a meal of your choosing. Open to the larger community, this restaurant serves as a revenue generator for the campus sponsor and an opportunity for community interactivity for residents.
  • For the Sunday game, it is off to Ratzkeller for a glass of beer in the German pub. The windows and brick that carve out charming space were harvested from the former Schell's Brewery in Belle Plaine and add to the rich decor.
  • For midweek games, there is the billiard room and game room for one-on-one competition or a visit to the woodshop or craftroom for personal hobbies and art projects.
  • For those seeking a calming afternoon, there are trips to the to the museum for a blast from the past and a stop at the inviting art gallery for a look at local artisan work. For those looking for a bit of wellness, there is the therapy center for exercise and a relaxing recovery in the hot tub.
  • For more sunny days, there is the garden patio available for those looking for a tan or just a bit of fresh air as they stroll the campus yard.
  • Even the units themselves offer something fantastic, with built in fireplaces, a breakfast counter, french doors leading to a cozy den with built in book cases and a sizeable laundry room in each unit to serve the needs of those in house.
