IN BRIEF:

Projects ranging from asset preservation to system upgrades included work at the following locations:

•  Loring Elementary School
•  Emerson Elementary School
•  Sanford Elementary School

THE CHALLENGE:

Working on several schools in the district, WAI Continuum was asked to address a wide variety of challenges, unique to each location. Primary design issues to be addressed included:

•  Asset preservation
  •   Roof replacement
  •  Tuckpointing and brick cleaning
  •  Window replacement
•  Interior remodeling
  •  Wall repair & repainting
  •  Floor repair & replacement
  •  Ceiling replacement
•  Upgrades for ADA compliance
•  HVAC, electrical, ire & life safety upgrades
•  Gymnasium floor replacement
•  Classroom, multi-purpose room & auditorium renovations

THE SOLUTION:

In light of the numerous simultaneous projects involved, project work and scheduling involved sensitive consideration and design implementation around:

•  Scheduling for funding availability
•  Occupied construction - working around school breaks and/ or daily school sessions
•  Multiple bid packages for scheduling/funding/scope considerations
•  Code compliance for a variety of system upgrades
