Projects ranging from technology upgrades to asset preservation, included work at the following locations:

  •  Como Park Elementary School
  •  Parkway Elementary School
  •  Ames Elementary School

THE CHALLENGE:

As the district's architect of choice, WAI Continuum was asked to address a wide variety of challenges, unique to each location. Design arenas to be addressed iincluded:

  •  Asset preservation - roof repair/replacement, plumbing replacement, HVAC upgrades,etc.
  •  Accessibility/ADA improvements - power assist doors, audio/visual alarms, elevator replacement, etc.
  •  Restrooms - unisex additions, plumbing/fixture replacement
  •  Kitchen & cafeteria remodeling, relocation and expansion
  •  Computer laboratory - new integration and expansions
  •  Library and music room upgrades to address new electrical demands
  •  Lobby, hall & commons remodeling

THE SOLUTION:

In light of the numerous simultaneous projects involved, project work and scheduling involved sensitive consideration and design implementation around:

  •  Scheduling for funding availability
  •  Occupied construction - working around school breaks and/ or daily school sessions
  •  Historic preservation
  •  Bid alternates to address cost constraints or budget/project scope limitations
  •  Multiple bid packages for scheduling/funding/scope considerations
