IN BRIEF:
154 Bed Skilled Nursing Facility
THE CHALLENGE:
Without changing the bed count of the faclity's 1960s model, WAI Continuum needed to address the following:
- Inadequate service and care delivery space
- Limited privacy for residents
- Open up and brighten poor aesthetic imagery
- Upgrade building and emergency call systems
- Renovate kitchen and laundry spaces
THE SOLUTION:
To address the financial constraints of the project, the provider sought to focus on the reorganization and expansion of common areas. With minor modifications to the room configurations, the moratorium exception project sought to largely leave the resident rooms intact. The significant impact of the design was the integration of a neighborhood configuration with new service delivery systems and improved space and operational efficiency.
The finished design included:
- Neighborhood configuration with separate dining & activity space in each
- Points of choice for resident activity (e.g. streetside cafe, conversation nooks, country store facades)
- Expanded kitchen & laundry space
- Centralized therapy & rehabilitiation space
- Improved aesthetic appeal and openess to nurse and service delivery areas
