WAI Continuum Design Recognized in National Architectural Showcase
Project: Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother CCRC
The Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother campus growth, designed by WAI Continuum, will be featured in DESIGN for Senior Environments 2006.
This architectural showcase is sponsored by Society for the Advancement of Gerontological Environments (SAGE) and Nursing Homes/Long Term Care Management. Published annually, it recognizes architectural projects that have achieved exceptionally innovative design solutions for aging environments.
This award acknowledges WAI Continuum’s design for its success in meeting the changing needs of the existing long term care provider who provides private care to retired nuns within its Catholic order. The finished design includes:
- Addition of independent & assisted living neighborhoods, plus renovation of skilled nursing building.
- A town square complete with wellness center and coffee shop.
- Renovated chapel and memorial alcove, including reflection ponds and cascading water wall which brings
remembrance of baptism to the stained glass windows offering daily reminders of the values and heritage of the Franciscan Order.
- New conference center and meeting spaces that utilize advanced technology to access international lecturers and religious orders while housing up to 100 attendees locally.
- Guest suites for visiting friends and lecturers.
- Incorporation of sustainable and green building design components.
DESIGN for Senior Environments 2006 is published in April.
