WAI Continuum Awarded Commission of Seven Retirement Communities
Client: Primrose Retirement Communities
Saint Paul, MN – Minnesota architecture firm WAI Continuum has been awarded the architectural planning and design commission of seven Primrose Retirement projects located in Ohio, Nebraska, Montana and Wyoming. Each of these $5.7 million dollar facilities will offer between 68 and 80 housing units and feature numerous design enhancements aimed at creating a higher quality of life for senior residents.
Incorporating a village design, these independent and assisted living facilities will offer apartment style units with ‘town centers’ connecting the residential units and common spaces.Such town center components will feature an Italian garden café, English pub-style ice cream parlor, chapel, theatre, library, winding sidewalks and educational space for lifelong learning programs. These design enhancements create a sense of home where residents can identify their space with points of interest, instead of carpet color and paint.Subsequent project phases will include townhome developments.
“While retirement homes can never be expected to replace a two-story house with a white picket fence, new facilities such as these seek to create stimulating and pleasant environments where residents can enjoy a sense of community and a full quality of life.” remarks Scott Koester, Project Manager and Vice President of WAI/Continuum, an architectural specialist in the senior housing and healthcare industry.
The first project in Casper, WY is currently nearing construction completion.Other projects, located in Grand Island, NE, Mansfield, OH, Marion, OH, Lima, OH, and Billings, MT are currently under or nearing construction starts with a seventh facility projected for Findlay, OH.
